Hint: What does a larva become?

ANSWER: insect.

insect - Copy

               INSECT

A larva is the immature form of an insect that undergoes some change.  An example of a larva is a caterpillar.  It builds a cocoon and eventually turns into a beautiful butterfly.  Another example of a larva is a mosquito.  A larva of a mosquito is well developed with a head that has mouth hairs that it uses for feeding.  On the other hand, an embryo is an unborn offspring of a mammal.  It is in the process of development.  An example of an embryo is an unborn child/baby.  A baby begins life as a single cell, barely visible to the naked eye.  The baby develops in the mother’s womb.

NEST

Hint: Who lives in a nest?

ANSWER:  bird.

BIRD

BIRD

The honeycomb is like a house for a bee.  Inside it there are three kinds of bees— queen, worker and drone.  The worker bees are female.  Drone bees are male and their only job is to find a mate for the queen.  All bees have six legs and five eyes.  The first stage of development of a bee is the egg, the second stage is the larvae, the third stage is the pupae, the fourth and last stage is turning into an adult bee.

A nest is a house for a bird.  It is so sturdy and secure that it can survive even the harshest winters.  A nest has many layers.  Rough, coarse twigs often form the base.  Finer twigs and weeds are laced with bark to create the cup.  Fine grasses and other soft materials form the inner lining.

Why are honey bees so important to people?

A BEAM of light is to a BEAM for gymnastics

 BEAM                         BEAM                         BOX                             BOX

(Hint: What you do in the sport of boxing ?)

ANSWER: box.

There are many words in the English language that are spelled the same or sound the same but have different meanings.   These words are called homonyms.  We have these words because they make our language more rich and diverse, like our cultures and people in America.

A beam can be a ray of light, like a moonbeam, sunbeam or high beam, or a beam used for balancing in gymnastics.  A box can be something for packaging things, and to box is a sport where people fight with boxing gloves by punching and using defense.  The analogy works because both pairs of words are homonyms.  Homonyms that are spelled the same are called homographs.

Who was the most famous American boxer ?  Why was he so famous?

CLEATS

HINT: in what sport do players use cleats?

ANSWER: soccer.

soccer

Even though it may not seem so, ballerinas and soccer players are very similar.  Both dancing and playing soccer require a lot of strength.  You also need special shoes for both sports.  Soccer players wear a special type of shoe called a cleat.  Cleats are like tennis shoes with little spikes under them.  Ballet dancers wear a special type of shoe called a pointe shoe.  Pointe shoes help dancers balance on their toes.

Have you ever worn cleats or pointe shoes?

Answer: PAINT horse.

The spots on an Appaloosa have a wide range of colors and patterns.  In contrast, Paint horses usually have dark patches with a white background.

Appaloosas and Paints are alike because both are used for Western riding, and sometimes they are shown in competition for prizes if they are beautiful.  Both breeds are naturally good at herding cattle and other farm animals.  They both are used for barrel racing, roping cattle, walking in parades and bronco riding.

ANSWER: Burger King.

Panda Express created Orange Chicken.  Burger King created the Whopper.  Panda Express is a Chinese restaurant.  Burger King is a burger restaurant.  My analogy is a comparison of foods these restaurants created.  They’re similar because they’re nation wide restaurants.  They’re different because they serve different types of food.
